Data to AI Engineering
Mission
We build engineers who understand the full pipeline โ from raw, messy data to intelligent production systems. Not just model tuners, but people who can design, deploy, and operate AI infrastructure at scale.
Linux Native
Everything runs on Linux. Our dev environments, our servers, our HPC nodes. Students learn the OS that powers 97% of the world's servers.
FOSS First
We default to open-source tools. No lock-in, no black boxes. If we use it, you can inspect it, modify it, and contribute back.
CSC Powered
Students get real access to CSC national computing infrastructure including Puhti, Mahti, and LUMI. Real HPC, not a toy cluster.
Builder of Future Jobs
In the Data to AI engineering programme, you specialise in data management and processing, as well as developing AI solutions. During your studies, you master the entire chain from data collection and refinement to implementing AI-powered services.
You also get to develop AI solutions and systems for various application domains in close collaboration with companies. Your learning is accelerated by a Europe-scale unique student-maintained data centre and a supercomputer available for student use!
Artificial intelligence refers to software and systems capable of learning, acting and making decisions mimicking human intelligence โ automatically and adaptively. We already see AI in self-driving cars, facial recognition, X-ray analysis and targeted online advertising.
Key content areas of the hands-on programme include programming, data processing and management, computing environments, data analysis, machine learning and AI, and leveraging AI in business and digital services. Special features include emphasis on project-based learning, integration of core and professional subjects into project studies, flexible online studies, and the possibility to study during summer. The studies also include plenty of interesting and functional projects carried out in cooperation with companies from various application domains.
Data and information are at the core of AI โ without proper data there is no AI! Information is abundantly available and keeps accumulating, but how is it utilised and refined into new products and services? Come find out and apply to the Data to AI programme to develop future technology and solutions around AI.
Blended Learning
The Data to AI blended learning programme is delivered primarily online. Contact teaching is mainly remote instruction offered on weekday evenings. Some studies are conducted as on-site teaching in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Remote participation is offered for on-site sessions where possible.
As in the daytime programme, you work as part of a development team on multiple projects. In the blended programme, projects are completed individually or in groups with remote support.
Blended learning requires self-direction and readiness for independent study. Due to the amount of independent study, strong mathematical skills are beneficial. You can complete your studies alongside work, making the programme well suited for those looking to change careers or redirect their ICT expertise towards data and AI.
